You will read many posts telling you what you should do AFTER you’ve created a blog, however, only find a few that will tell you what to do BEFORE you start blogging. Today, this is just what I want to talk to you about. You decided you want to start a #Blog, so what do you do next? #bloggingtipsClick To Tweet
Where do you start?
As someone who created numerous blogs on several different platforms only to delete them later because they were awful, first and foremost answer….
“Why do you want to blog?”
This should be your #1 question in my opinion. Let’s narrow it down a bit.
Why do you want to blog?
Do you want to:
- Make money
- Share your stories
- Build a Business
- Sell a Product
- Sell a Service
- Keep an online journal
Let’s break it down even a bit more.
To make Money
If you’re going into blogging to make money, Don’t! It’s going to take you quite some time to figure out how to make money. This is not a get-rich-fast gig for sure!
Let us not forget how stiff the competition is!
To share your Stories/Experiences
This is good reason to start a blog.
Actually, my first blog was about rescuing a pit bull mix. I documented our journey and networked with a lot of dog bloggers.
However, ask yourself this. Will you just be sharing your stories or will you be engaging other via your stories? Do you want others to comment on your story or do you want them to discuss and share a part of their life as well?
To build a Business/Sell a Product or Service
A lot of people are building an online business. If you want to draw attention to your business, product, or service, you will need to blog to engage with others and get them to visit your site to SEE what you’re selling. It takes Time and Effort!
Remember again, the competition is stiff!
An online journal
Many people like to document their struggles with health issues, talk about parenting and relationships. This can be an excellent way to find support from like-minded people but don’t forget to ENGAGE your readers. Don’t be all about you, even though it’s a journal.
Whatever your reasons are, make sure you PLAN AHEAD. Write it all out on paper and think is this really what you want to do.
Blogging takes time, a lot of it. It’s not as simple as writing if you want to be successful and network with others. It takes time sharing and promoting your content, networking with others, commenting on others blogs and behind-the-scenes maintenance.
If you feel that you don’t have the time nor the patience, don’t create a blog. Buy yourself a few $1 notebooks and start writing there. Create yourself a brand page on Facebook and writer there. Don’t establish a blog without thinking through the entire process.
Don’t take it just from me, though, do your research and see what others have to say. Only then do you make your final decision.
Over to you
Are you thinking about creating a blog or have you already? Is blogging what you thought it was going to be? How many times have you created a blog only to delete it or abandon it?
